Meteora & Delphi, Two Days Tour
Explore Delphi's ancient wonders and Meteora's stunning monasteries on a 2-day tour, with scenic drives through historic sites .
Itinerary
- 1st Day / Delphi and Kalambaka
Begin your journey with a scenic drive through the towns of Thebes, Levadia, and the picturesque village of Arachova, famous for its vibrant multi-colored carpets. Nestled on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Arachova offers stunning views before we arrive at Delphi.
At the foot of Mount Parnassus, within the dramatic Phaedriades rock formations, lies Delphi, once regarded as the center of the world in ancient Greece. According to mythology, two eagles sent by Zeus met here, marking the navel of the world. For centuries, Delphi was a cultural and religious hub, home to the famous Oracle of Delphi and the Pythian Games, second only to the Olympics in significance. Explore the archaeological site (please note: the museum visit is not included), and immerse yourself in this sacred site, a symbol of unity for the Hellenic world.
Afterward, depart for Kalambaka, passing through the scenic villages and towns of Central Greece. As we cross the fertile Thessalian Plain—known as the granary of Greece—enjoy the changing landscapes. Upon arrival in Kalambaka, a small town nestled at the foot of Meteora’s rock formations, enjoy a short visit of the village. Dinner and overnight in Kalambaka.
- 2nd Day / Meteora and Return to Athens
After breakfast, explore one of Greece’s most extraordinary sights—Meteora. The name "Meteora" means suspended in air, a fitting description for this otherworldly landscape of massive rock pillars, atop which stand age-old monasteries. Originally, access to the monasteries was via nets hoisted by rope, or retractable ladders. Today, you’ll visit some of these UNESCO World Heritage sites, where monks once lived in seclusion, and see priceless historical and religious treasures housed within the monasteries.
After the visit, we begin our return journey to Athens, stopping at Thermopylae, where you’ll have a brief stop to view the monument of King Leonidas. Arrive in Athens early in the evening, with a transfer available for guests staying at the coast.
